Risk of Forrestfire in the municipality of Mora

Mapping and assessment of forest fire risk in the municipality of Mora in Sweden.

By collecting data of previous years fires combined with data and information about the surrounding vegetation, soil type and height ratios I was able to point out high risk areas near urban areas. The work was conducted mainly in the GIS-software Arc-GIS Pro.

Please note that the work is done in Swedish.

Mora is located in the centre of Sweden and is one of the most forested areas in the country. With the rising threat of global warming forest fires will only increase, and therefore I found it important to research the subject. Data was collected of previous forest fires as well as days where the risk of forest fires were high.
Continuity zones around urban areas shows how fire can spread through the vegetation. Light blue (1) is in direct contact with urban areas, medium blue (2) is forest less than 20 metres away from zone 1. The same goes for the dark blue (3) in connection to zone 2.
